Removalist in Palmwoods: The Truck Starts Here
Your Removalist in Palmwoods Is Already in Palmwoods
Journeyman Movers charges travel from and to its Palmwoods depot, which makes a Palmwoods job the shortest leg on the whole rate card.
Moving in Palmwoods
Journeyman Movers works out of a depot in Palmwoods, and the rate card is honest about why that matters: full travel is charged from and to that depot. A job in the 4555 postcode therefore starts and ends where the truck already is, instead of paying for a run up the Bruce Highway before the first box is lifted. Hourly rates are GST inclusive and published in full, there is no minimum-hours charge and no rounding to the nearest quarter hour, and Goods in Transit and Public Liability cover come at no extra cost. Whether you are moving out of an old timber home near the station or into one of the newer estates spreading toward Chevallum, you are dealing with the people who will be on the truck.

The suburb
What a move in Palmwoods actually involves
Palmwoods is a town of about 6,357 people built around a railway station that opened in 1891, and its street pattern still shows it. The compact village core sits tight against the North Coast line, and the newer estates and small farm blocks spread out from there toward Woombye, Chevallum and the Blackall Range foothills. Those two halves of the suburb ask completely different things of a removal truck.
That difference is the whole job. An older home on a narrow village block may have a single carport with a low awning and nowhere legal for a truck to sit; a new estate house has a wide road out front and a forty-metre walk from the kerb to the door. Both are ordinary Palmwoods moves, and neither is priced correctly by counting bedrooms.
Local conditions
Why a local crew is priced differently
Palmwoods sits 8.4 km south of Nambour, 16.1 km west-south-west of Maroochydore and 103 km north of Brisbane. For an operator dispatching from the coast or from the south, every one of those kilometres is billable travel before and after the work. Journeyman Movers publishes exactly how that is handled: full travel from and to the Palmwoods depot, covering fuel, wages and transit time, with some of it negotiable. On a Palmwoods job that leg is as short as the business is able to make it, which is the concrete version of "local" that actually shows up on an invoice.
Proximity also buys flexibility that a distant operator cannot offer at any price. Loads here often turn out larger than the estimate, because under-house storage and garden sheds rarely make it into a first description. When that happens, a second run from a depot in the same suburb is a short afternoon trip rather than a second day's work.
The housing stock is the other half of the argument. Palmwoods grew as a fruit-shipping town on the railway, and pineapple growing is still the district's most important primary industry, so the suburb kept its small-farm fringe as well as its village centre. A removalist working here needs to be equally comfortable with a two-bedroom cottage a hundred metres from the station and with an acreage household on the road toward Hunchy and Montville. The same rate card covers both; the same crew has done both.
Run sheet
Three things that decide the day in Palmwoods
01
The village core was laid out around the railway, not around trucks
Why it happens
Palmwoods was surveyed as a station township after the North Coast line opened through it in 1891, so the original streets are short, close-set and pressed between the rail corridor and the hill. They were never widened for a modern furniture truck.
Why it matters
An articulated vehicle cannot turn in streets like these, and where a truck cannot park within carrying distance of the door, the crew walks. On an hourly rate, every extra metre of carry is money.
How we help
We run rigid trucks from 4.5 to 16.5 tonnes rather than semi-trailers, so the vehicle is sized to the street as well as to the load. Where the kerb genuinely will not take one, we park legally nearby and shuttle with trolleys, and the carry distance goes into the estimate before you book rather than onto the invoice afterwards.
02
Under-house storage that nobody counted
Why it happens
A large part of the older housing here is high-set timber on stumps, and the space underneath becomes a workshop, a laundry and thirty years of storage. It is not part of the floor plan, so it is not part of how most people describe their house.
Why it matters
Under-house contents can add several cubic metres to a load. That is the difference between the 30 m³ truck and the 50 m³ truck, and between a quote that holds and one that does not.
How we help
We ask what is under the house and in the shed before we quote, and we size the truck to the answer. Journeyman Movers also offers an on-site assessment, so on a Palmwoods job the owner can come and look rather than estimate down the phone.
03
Foothill weather turning an unsealed driveway to mud
Why it happens
Palmwoods sits in the foothills of the Blackall Range, and the acreage fringe toward Hunchy and Chevallum runs on gravel and grassed driveways that carry a loaded truck comfortably in the dry and not at all after a summer downpour.
Why it matters
A truck that grounds out or bogs on your driveway damages both the vehicle and the driveway, and on a narrow foothill road there is no easy recovery.
How we help
We check driveway surface and gradient as part of the quote, not on the morning. If the ground is marginal we stage the truck where it is firm and shuttle the load, schedule the heaviest items for the driest part of the day, and say so up front, including recommending a different date if conditions would genuinely risk your property.
What we do
Services booked most often in Palmwoods
01
Full house removals
Whole-household moves from two-bedroom cottages near the station through to five- and six-bedroom homes on the acreage fringe, with beds dismantled, wardrobes flat-packed and everything soft-sided wrapped and strapped before it goes on the truck.
Palmwoods spans both extremes, so the truck is chosen from seven published sizes rather than assumed: a 30 m³ 8-tonne for a 2–3 bedroom home, a 75 m³ 16.5-tonne for a 5–6 bedroom one.
02
Unit and townhouse moves
Smaller moves into and out of the newer complexes, with the access window confirmed with the body corporate in advance, floor protection laid on shared corridors, and the truck sized to what can legally park.
The estates spreading toward Chevallum and the Nambour Connection Road are where Palmwoods' growth has gone, and their kerb space and access rules decide the day more than the volume does.
03
Packing and unpacking
Cartons, paper, wardrobe boxes and a crew that packs a kitchen in hours. Take all of it, none of it, or the middle ground: we pack the glassware and wardrobes, you do the books and the garage.
Useful when a Palmwoods settlement and handover land days apart, and for long-held family homes where the under-house area is the real job.
04
Piano and pool table moves
Uprights, grands and slate tables, moved with proper trolleys, straps and enough hands. Slate beds come apart and are reassembled on site, and door frames are protected on the way through.
In Palmwoods' older high-set homes the instrument usually has to come down an external stair. A heavy-lifting fee may apply to pianos and pool tables by prior agreement, and we agree it before the day, not after.
05
Interstate and long-distance removals
Palmwoods to Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Mackay or Cairns, inventoried and packed to a long-haul standard rather than for a ten-minute drive, with the same company handling both ends.
Beyond the local Sunshine Coast area an extra $10 per hour applies for each 100 km travelled, though not to the $165 per hour rate or above, which is worth knowing when you compare truck sizes.
06
Single-item delivery
One fridge, one lounge suite, one marketplace find that will not fit in the ute: collected, protected and placed in the room you want it in, as a fixed price or by the hour.
The one-man-and-truck rate starts at $99 per hour for local Sunshine Coast deliveries, which is usually the sensible option for a single Palmwoods pickup.
The business
Who turns up, and what stands behind it
Journeyman Movers was launched in 2016 by founder and owner-operator Jason White, and remains a small family-run business. It is ABN and GST registered, and carries both Goods in Transit Insurance and Public Liability Insurance, provided at no charge to the customer. Every hourly rate published on the rate card is GST inclusive, there is no minimum-hours charge, and time is billed in actual hours and minutes rather than rounded up in 15- or 30-minute increments.
Getting to you
How Palmwoods is serviced
The depot is in Palmwoods, so this is the one suburb in the hinterland where the truck does not have to get here first. Travel is still charged from and to the depot as the rate card states, but on a Palmwoods move that is the shortest such leg Journeyman Movers charges anyone.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
What does a removalist in Palmwoods actually cost?
Journeyman Movers publishes its whole rate card rather than quoting blind. Local Sunshine Coast rates run from $132 per hour for two crew and a 15 m³ 4.5-tonne truck (enough for a one-bedroom unit) through $154 for a 30 m³ 8-tonne truck suited to a 2–3 bedroom house, $165 for a 50 m³ 10.5-tonne truck for a 3–4 bedroom home, and up to $187 for a 75 m³ 16.5-tonne truck for a 5–6 bedroom house. All rates are GST inclusive. An additional crew member is $55 per hour, which often finishes the job in fewer hours than it costs to add. Tell us bedrooms, stairs and access and we will tell you which line of that card your move sits on.
Do you charge travel time from your depot?
Yes, and we say so plainly: full travel is charged from and to the depot in Palmwoods, covering fuel, wages and transit time. We may negotiate or waive part of it. What being based in Palmwoods changes is the size of that leg. For a move within the suburb it is the shortest travel Journeyman Movers charges anyone, which is exactly the advantage a genuinely local removalist has over one dispatching from Brisbane or the coast.
Can your truck get into the older streets near the station?
Yes. We run rigid trucks from 4.5 through to 16.5 tonnes rather than semi-trailers, precisely because of streets laid out around a railway station in 1891. Where the kerb is unusable, whether from a narrow frontage, a shared driveway or an overhanging tree, we park legally nearby and shuttle with trolleys. Mention it when you call and the carry distance goes into the estimate, instead of being discovered on the morning.
Is there a minimum charge, or do you round the hours up?
Neither. Journeyman Movers does not charge minimum hours and does not round time up in 15- or 30-minute increments. You are billed for the hours and minutes worked. Weekend and holiday work carries a published loading rather than a hidden one: add $20 per hour on a Saturday, $30 per hour on a Sunday or public holiday. Tollways and parking meters may also apply, and a heavy-lifting fee for items like pianos and pool tables is agreed in advance.
Do I have to pack everything myself?
No. You can do all of it, none of it, or the split most people choose: we pack the kitchen, glassware and wardrobes, you handle books, linen and the garage. We bring cartons, butcher's paper and wardrobe boxes. If you have already packed, load-and-go is fine; just seal the cartons and keep them light enough to be carried safely down a flight of stairs.
Are there any discounts?
Two are published. Seniors and pensioners receive a 10% discount, and returning customers receive 5% off a second move. Both come off the hourly rate for the job. Mention which applies to you when you enquire so it is in the quote from the start.

Book a Palmwoods move
Tell us the bedroom count, the stairs, what is under the house and whether a truck can park within about ten metres of the door, and we will give you a realistic hour range against a published rate rather than a headline number that climbs on the day. Call Jason and the crew on 0478 796 575, email contact@journeymanmovers.com.au, or request a quote online. If the access is the awkward part, ask for an on-site assessment.
